Best Month To Buy A Used Car

Q.Recession, big time here in the Netherlands. You won't believe how much less we have to spend ever since the euro was introduced! Salaries haven't been going up for years now, and prices have doubled or tripled, not to mention the taxes here (35 to 75% incomes tax, 20% tax on everything you buy, road tax, dog tax etc etc) I have been looking into our finances and I am pretty depressed now...there's actually more money going out on bills every month than my husband makes!!!!! If this continues we might have to sell the car, which I really need because of my health problems, I cannot walk very far....and maybe my internet access.... I cannot spare any more money on groceries, I just don't know where to get the money to pay everything. I was able to pay off my entire tuition for school, thankfully, so now I can finish my education without having to worry about that. I don't even have any good stuff to sell anymore. *sigh* Anyway, I know there's nothing anyone here can do about it, but I just needed to get it off my chest.

A.Wait, we're talking about my country now! And from where I'm sitting, the economy is booming as much as it was in the '90s. I'm flooded with overpaid job offers, companies can't find enough employees, inflation is lower than ever. The reason we have less to spend since the euro was introduced is not because of the euro, but because of the inflation from before it was introduced. And yes, cafe's used the introduction of the euro to double their prices, so here's my advice: boycott them. Buy your drinks in the supermarket and invite friends over. Cafe's are a serious rip-off these days (with the occasional happy exception). Most of the other prices have stayed pretty much the same over the past couple of years. Depends on your job, I suppose. My salary has been going up, and if I want, there's a lot of jobs availlable that pay a lot more than my current one. I don't know what field you're working in, but it might help to look around a bit. I think the highest level of income tax is about 52%, and if you're paying that, you've got a pretty cushy job. Cut your expenses! Not having a dog, car or mortgage saves me tons of money every month (although I'm afraid the mortgage will eventually happen one day, somewhere next year). How's your energy bill? Some small energy companies provide much cheaper electricity than the big giants. Get a cheaper car. My fiancee did, and just the insurance saved her quite a lot of money. This is my biggest sin. I haven't checked the cost of my internet connection in 8 years, and I'm pretty sure I can get a much cheaper connection somewhere else. I really should have a look at that, but it's not very urgent with my current financial situation. Groceries are kinda important, yes. But some places are cheaper than others. Some products are cheaper than others. I don't believe in selling your old stuff anyway. Financially, it's at best a temporary solution. It does give you more room in your house, though. Perhaps it's different for me because I live incredibly cheap (I could live quite comfortably on welfare (bijstand), even), and in my line of work (programming) the number of job vacancies has just gone through the roof again. But 4 years ago, during the recession, I was unemployed. Apparently economic fluctuations tend to be a bit more extreme in my field. Anyway, good luck. Sanitise your expenses, particularly cars can be a money sink if you're not careful. A small, cheap, economical car can save you tons of money each month. Not wasting your money in overly expensive cafe's is another.
