Best Used Cars

Q.From the Maximas I've seen on the road, I believe the 89 thru 94's make the best used cars on Earth. Is there any reason why I could be wrong? I need a good cruiser with lots of appointments, great looks, good performance, reliable mechanicals and body interior/exterior that will last a long time and for under $10,000. This generation Max has caught my eye since day one. What year is the most reliable? What would be the highest mileage before major things will start going out? How long does the interior upholstery and headliner hold up? Not interested in variable valve timing or active suspension, so I'd stay away from the SE's. I'm very mechanical and am not afraid to do major work, but I don't want a used car that's gonna have a tranny go out or rings/bearings etc. wear out in a couple of years. Timing belts I can handle.

A.I have a 90 Maxima GXE and absolutely love it. The interior is almost perfect, with the exception of some normal wear. I recently had a major service done at the dealer, and when they finished, they said I should be able to go for at least double the mileage I have on it now(89k). I had the usual stuff done: Belts, hoses, etc. and also had two of the injectors replaced because the dealer said they werent firing properly. I wondered why I wasnt getting the performance I had before... the only other problem I have had in my 4 yrs of ownership is my current problem. It's a hissing sound that sounds like there's a hole in the exhaust system somewhere, and I have concluded that it's probably the catalytic converter. I imagine that it needs to be replaced...it's been there since it rolle off the factory lot. Other than that, I have had 0 complaints with it. It is such a great car, my father recently purchased a 97 GLE after comparing it with a Camry. I hope this helps, and welcome to the club!!!!!
