Blue Book Price Taurus Used CarQ.I'm trying to set a price for my 90 Taurus SHO. I checked the 'average retail' and 'average wholesale' price in Edmund's. I've also seen a 'yellow book' at my credit union, quoting a higher price. Then I went to the dealer where I was considering buying a 96 Voyager. He quoted me average wholesale prices several thousand $s under both publications! He said thay all use the 'blue book', not the yellow book, nor Edmund's, and those blue book prices are what's being paid at the auction where he'd take this car. Is this right? How can 3 sources claiming 'average wholesale' be that far off? Is the 'blue book' really the right baseline? Or is this published by the car industry with an insider understanding 'add $2000 to the prices we publish and this is the price you can expect at an auction' or something like that? I'll end up selling the car privately anyway now, but I am still faced with setting a reasonable price. The car is not common enough to see a lot of them listed in the local paper, so I'm stuck. Can anyone help calrify these 'book values' at least to give me some guidance? A.Did you see the book the dealer was using to quote you the price? I know the term 'blue-book' is used a lot, but the actual book I've seen used is the yellow NADA used car book. As long as the credit union had the same issue (they come out rather frequently) as the dealer, the prices should be the same. I'm not sure about Edmund's and the source of their information. If the dealer is that far off, there should be a reasonable explanation Other Questions : Find Used Car Dealershipsis there any recommendable used car dealer in Urbana-Champaign Area? For my money, there's no such thing as a recommendable used car dealer.
