1985 BMW 323i Convertible

Q.What would be the current market value of a 1985 BMW 323i 5 speed convertible, very low mileage (157,000 kms),air, sports interior, BMW factory alloy mags ? Does anyone know a site in Australia for current used car prices ?

A.I almost bought an '85 323i 5 speed coupe about a year ago. The 323i is almost a classic (IMHO). It's actually a cabriolet, not a convertible, but I'm just nitpicking. :) The cabrio is not very common, esp in manual. I'd say you should get a good one in the low $20k's. 157 000 kms is not spectacularly low for these cars - I saw plenty of (admittedly) coupes last year with under 100k km. I'm not sure what you mean by sports interior, maybe an M-tek gearknob? :) Actually, the BMW interiors of that age are pretty poor quality. Most cars I looked at (incl 1986 318i's) had a cracked dash and frayed seats. If the car you're looking at has a refitted interior, it would be a big advantage. Air and the alloy wheels were standard for the '85 models as was central locking. As for used car prices, the best indication is probably Glass's Guide - it lists the average price of all sales by private sellers and dealers separately. I think you can get it from newsagents. On the Internet, the best place is, without a doubt, The Trading Post (http://www.tradingpost.com.au) Also, try the SMH classifieds (http://www.smh.com.au). There's also a thing called rpdata (http://www.rpdata.com.au) which is a secondhand marketplace, but I've never looked at it.
