Buy New And Used Cars

Q.Why do people like to buy a new car? I don't know the reason why they make a habit of setting fire to ?000's of pounds when you leave a shop? Buying a new car is just the same thing, buy, leave showroom, lose ?000's. Why they don't think about buying something nice secondhand? For the price of a new Focus Ghia,they could have a lovely 5 year old BMW 540i instead, or an Audi A8, or a 3 year old Mercedes E220 CDi, or.... Buy something that's done it's initial depreciation, new cars on average lose 45 - 55% in the first three years. That's a whole hill of money. There's some fantastic cars out there for less than the price of a new poverty model Daewoo..

A.Why oh why do people like you not understand why many people want to buy new?? Why oh why do people like you not understand that people who buy a cheap small car new simply DONT WANT a much larger 5 year old car?? Why oh why do people like you not understand that in most respects the car trade is like most trades - supply and demand - the reason many older cars are aparently so cheap is because not many people want them (if there was a rush for them, prices would go up). I can understand the logic of buying used - dont get me wrong - but just be glad that huge number of peoiple differ from you - otherwise there would be no used cars on the market for people like you to "benefit" from. Buying a second hand car is like buying a second hand almost anything else anything - you are buying someone elses cast-off. Thats fine if you like doing that sort of thing. Only "collectables", property and the like are fundamentally different to this logic. The percentage saving you can make buying a used car is substantially less than the percentage saving you can make buying used clothes - and it is worth noting that many second hand clothes are, relatively speaking, far less "used" than a used car - sometimes worn only once, or not at all. Does that mean we are all going to rush out to hunt for a hardly (if at all) warn coat that would cost 200 new for a tenner?? I know of several people who spend more on new clothes per month than they do on their loan for a new car.
