Buy New Or Used Car

Q.Has anyone purchased the used car warranty that they sell on the used car lots for used vehicles? Do it work and have there been any good/bad experiences with them? Is there anything I should look out for in regard to this?

A.There are also companies that will independantly sell you a warranty for your used car. I recall seeing some of them when I was looking at buying a used car a while back. Do some googling both in the newsgroups and on the web. I recall there was at least two highly reputable independant warranty companies. The problem with most of the warranties that you buy from "fly by night auto" used car lots is that they are likely getting a commission on the sale of the warranty. Hence they are motivated to con you into buying one. The independants dont do this, and in fact IIRC, you can get a quote for your vehicle on-line. As I recall; however, the kind of warranty I was interested in for the mini-van I wanted to buy was going to be in the order of $1500 to $2000.
