Buy Used Cars ChicagoQ.I want to buy a '90 Corollas for about $2,000 and mid to late '80s run less than $1,000. However, I do keep an eye on the car section of the classifieds, and haven't seen something like this for a good 6 months. Recent immigrants like to buy 'em -- I've had offers from passersby on the street -- and they don't often make it to the point where someone is officially offering one for sale, rather than handing it down to a kid or selling theirs to the landscaping crew. A.I sold my last car and found my "new" one on www.autotrader.com (usual disclaimers apply). I also had an ad in Chi.forsale for the metro Chicago area and got one reply (who didn't show up!). The Chicago Tribune's Autos section is connected to cars.com, a shame since they had their own site that was good. Cars.com features more ads from dealers than private ones. Check your local newspapers online, that's easier to search/sort than in the print editions. At the supermarket, there are usually weekly give-away car magazines with used car ads, private and by dealers. If you know cars, go for a sale from a private owner to save money/get a better deal. I'm a stickler for first owners as sellers and for a 1993 Celica, that's still possible. I'm not sure with an older vehicle, you'll be looking at 2nd or even 3rd owners.
