Buy Used Cars For Cheap

Q.Friends, my lease has run up and I am looking for a new vehicle. I would greatly appreciate any input/experiences any would share with me in helping me select my next vehicle. I want to go as green as possible with emphases on MPG.

A.If you can wait till next year, I would. Next year we're going to get the choice of several new small turbo-diesels with mileage in the range of 60mpg... and these are NOT complicated hybrids. They are Euro-style small, but super-efficient commuter cars (NOT micro-cars, although the Smart Car will be sold here next year, too, though not the turbo-diesel one yet.) These new diesels are nothing like the diesels of the past. They are quiet, very eco-friendly, and easy to start. GM, VW, and Honda all plan to have them ready for 2008. If you need something right now, I'd buy a used 1999-2002 Saturn SL1 or 2, or SW 1 or 2. The SL 1 gets 40mpg and the SL2 gets 38. They drive like sports cars, are cheap to own, very safe, and cost little to insure. They are highly reliable, and affordable as used cars.
