Buy Used Cars In Florida

Q.I have a '03 Corolla with 54,000 km (about 35,000 mi). I had planned to trade after 2 years, but I will be about 3,000 km (1800 mi) out of warranty. Will I do better by trading a couple of months early so that it will still be in warranty, or will it make that much of a difference? I live in Florida

A.People underestimate the carrying cost the dealer pays for a used car. They spend hundreds cleaning it up and then it may sit on a lot for a year. My last 2 trade-ins were a 91 Taurus and a 95 Subaru. I received calls from the dealerships involved almost a year after the cars were traded in. In both cases they had a customer for the car who wanted to talk to the original owner. So in both cases the dealer had to charge enuf to pay interest on the value of the cars for about a year, plus commission, clean up costs and some profit.
