Buy Used Cars New YorkQ.My friend bought and paid for a 1990 Jag from E Bay. Sent the $$$---guess what, no car after 17 days of waiting. She the buyer lives in Canada, seller in Texas, and it looks like E Bays protection system only works if you reside in the US. The buyer was supposed to deliver it through customs to Canada. she spent "all her $$" on this transaction, and lived on a "small fixed income". sounds just the type of person who should cruise around town in a 1990 Jag, especially in light of the many mechanical/electrical problems found in older Jags and the cost of parts and service. at least the maintenance costs she has now will be frugal....since she apparently is not getting the car. Do you think so? A.I think that she made a lot of mistakes, but there are often a lot of good reasons to buy a car from another area. One reason I ended up buying a new car was because the used models I was looking at were so expensive here. I looked at prices and buying a used Toyota Corolla in Virginia, for example, would have cost me $2000-$3000 less than buying a used Toyota Corolla in New York. Same car, different area, cheaper price. (New car prices are standardized across the country, but used car prices vary a lot.) I can only imagine that the same is true U.S./Canada. And many people up here in snow country try to buy used cars from southern states, since cars get so trashed up here from the snow and ice. I would never buy a car sight unseen, but I had a friend who bought a car in Texas even though she lived in New York. Even factoring in the plane ticket to Texas and a hotel room one night in TX and the time to drive from TX to NY, she still saved enough money to make it worthwhile. This wasn't via ebay, but through an ad - she paid a deposit but paying the rest was contingent on an inspection.
