Buying A Used CarQ.I'm about to be in the market for a new Tundra and just looking for someplace where I can find a good deal without getting dicked around all day any ideas? A.Best idea: Don't deal at all with the retail salesmen. Check with your credit union or bank about a car buying service. Car Shop, the buying service provided by the credit union I use, offers (1) an online configuration and pricing tool, and (2) buying through the dealer's fleet sales office at a price fixed relative to the invoice price. The configuration tool lets you choose the make and model you're interested in, then select the options you want. The result is a printout with the vehicle's option codes and for each item, retail and dealer prices. I have purchased two vehicles through Car Shop. In both cases the interactions with the fleet sales people was low key and without pressure. When I shopped for my current vehicle, I showed the salesman the Car Shop printout. When a search of metro dealers didn't turn up what I wanted, he used the printout to order the vehicle from the factory. After incentives, I paid below the invoice price. The one negotiation point was the value of the trade in. I used the credit union's appraisal as the floor price, and actually got a bit more than the appraised value. Car Shop's list of dealers seven local Toyota dealers. If your financial institution doesn't offer a buying service, you might want to find one that does. I saved several thousand dollars and a lot of hassle. Other Questions : Holland Used Auto PartsOnline sources for used auto parts?
