Cheap Used Cars Online

Q.Anyone know where in western (continental) europe one can find good bargains on used autos? I'm looking for something to buy and use for a couple months and then sell. Can someone recommend some classified papers which might have a good selection of used private party autos? My best bet is in one of the larger cities but which one? And what papers to check for? Preferably dedicated classified ad papers. Also, are any of those classified ads accessible through the internet. Here in the west coast US there's a great classified ad paper which is accessable on line! If I could find something similar for ads in europe it would be a great help. I'm just looking for something inexpensive as long as it runs well.

A.Forget about online resources for used cars. The "standard way" to buy a used car in germany is the following: - go to a not-to-small city - get up early on a saturday morning - get 2-3 newspapers with car ads - the sales agent will tell you which papers are ok... most ads are in the 2-3 major local newspapers and there are also some papers dedicated only to ads (they're called "Annonce" or "Avis" or something like that). Important: they should be papers which were released just that day! - look for good offers. If you find one, phone the people right away. Make an appointment with them (usually the same day), take a good look (or better a test drive) and if it's ok, buy it. Cheap used cars are normally paid cash. Make sure you receive all papers required (especially the "Fahrzeugbrief": the document which proofs that you're the owner of the car) and make a sales contract (you can get fool-proof standard forms at the ADAC, which is the german equivalent of the AAA). In comparison to online resources you'll find much more offers in local newspapers and they're usually cheaper... and you have a chance that -if you find a really good offer- it's still available if you call the same day. However, you should understand a little bit about car's otherwise someone might sell you scrap. You should also know the basics about which papers you need / which papers come with a car etc... (if you want, I can write you something about the papers needed in germany) I have observed that prices for really cheap and old used cars in germany are somehow lower than in surrounding countries - here in germany people are more willing to spend much money for cars than e.g. in france; therefore there is a bigger surplus of old used cars.
