Find A Cheap Used CarQ.My car was recently totalled by an uninsured driver in CA (where insurance is legally required!). Now my ins co says the cost of repair is $1000 more than its $472 (!!!!) value, so it has to be junked. My ins has $500 deductible, so I guess this means I just hand over the car?! Or pay all repairs out of pocket, which is empty. The disgusting thing is that the car was in outstanding condition and had just had a 75000 mile total checkup--new brakes, tires, timing belt, misc stuff which cost a lot. I had planned to drive the car until I died or could no longer drive. Now, it looks like I'm screwed! Crunched by a $60,000 SUV registered to a SF Post Office box number which does not respond. The driver also had no drivers licence, she told me. NO I.D. Police here would not come to the scene because there was no bodily injury. I did get and report the licence number, to no avail except to learn the anonymous address and the ownership by a supposed finance co which has no phone listing and is not registered with the state as a business....... It's been 14-15 yrs since I looked at cars--bought the 88 Nova/Toyata-Chevy for $7100 new. My first new car ever, and I've taken great care of it except for getting it run over by an SUV which kept gunning the engine, pusshing me out of the lane where I was parked in a lot. Any suggestions of a car for under a $1000 or so? For driving about 2000 miles a year and which will last for a decade??!! Maybe this is a sign I should stop driving entirely--or rent a car one day a month, perhaps? A.Stay tuned, I'm sure there will be a number of suggestions. Mine is to find a dealer, new or used, that will rent you one of his cheapest used, demonstrators, or loaners on the days that you need a car. Try to make it at a time when his business is slow. Make sure he provides the insurance. If you don't work regularly, maybe you could trade rental time for transfer time between dealers. That way you could pick up a car in the morning, use it that day, and deliver it to the other dealer. They usually provide transportation home. One other thing, the amount the insurance companies pay for claims such as yours varies. If it's State Farm and you know the agent, asked what's the best he can do for you. Here they will fix the car, if you are friendly, even if the amount is more than the book value. Other Questions : Price Of Used CarI am still suspicious about a couple things. Why is the price (almost?) always full list price, even when sales are slumping? And doesn't the one price policy prevent you from changing your price during the year? (If you drop the price tomor... how to find used car in the U.S.Aa friend has gone from London u.k. to Georgetown in north Dakota. he wants to buy an inexpensive used small family car either Toyota, Honda or vauxwagen golf. hey that's the cars we are used to, you know. how does one go about making such ...
