Find The Value Of A Used Car

Q.Can someone tell me what WAS the Blue Book value of a 1998 Acura-Integra, 45,000 miles, in very good condition BACK IN SEPTEMBER OF 2004? My grandson, who had just turned 18, bought the car in 2004, and paid $25,000 for it. I am now taking care of his affairs as he has become unable to do so due to medical problems, and I am the trustee of his deceased father's estate. I think he paid way too much for the car, and if I knew what was the Blue Book value of this 1998 model bought in 2004, I would get a better sense of the resale value of the car today.

A.The 1998 Integra started New at $16,000+ but usually sold at a price above that due to waiting lists for it. Some ran way above that depending on what model and how it was tricked out. The re-sale value in 2004 has nothing to do with re-sale value today- totally different markets, etc. Try finding out what the 1998s are going for today. Go to a public library and see if they have any used car guides from that year. By the way, why do you care what the car was worth two years ago? What's more important for a car is its current value if you intend to sell it. For current value, just google for "used car prices" and you'll find several online services that will give you a good estimate on a used car's current value.
