Hertz Used Cars For Sale

Q.Do you work for a used car dealer or a new car dealer? What kind of new car dealer buys used cars???? I never heard of that. New car dealers don't make any money till they get rid of the trades. Why would a new car dealer want to buy USED cars? The last thing they want is a trade. The best deal for the dealership is NO trade. Salesman Managers and salesman are paid a bonus on no trade deals. Fourteen to one no trades? I think you I just got in town from the farm or something?

A.What MDT was saying is that his dealership has very few trade-ins on the used car lot, that the majority of their used cars are bought at auction and shipped to the dealership. This is common, in fact. At the Toyota dealership I work for, the same is true. The vast majority of our used cars are not trade-ins, but fleet cars bought at auction which are mostly former rentals or off-lease cars from short term lessees, usually company cars of some sort. These are sold at auction by the lessors, usually banks and mfr. Finance branches like TMMC or GMAC or Ford Credit and by the rental car companies like Hertz. These vehicles are usually 1 to 3 years old, with mileage in line with their age. Our buyer goes to auctions all over the state, buys these cars, and they arrive on transport trucks, sometimes 20-50 cars at a time. Because these cars are usually in pretty good shape, needing minimal reconditioning, they can afford to pay a bit more for them than they can allow for trade-ins on a new car purchase deal. The average trade-in is either too old or in need of too much work for us to bother reconditioning, and is wholesaled. As you may or may not know dealerships can make a lot more money on clean late-model used cars than on new ones-for one thing there's no Monroney sticker on them so price gouging is easier, lol. At any given time, we usually have many more late-model used cars for sale than new Toyotas. These are almost all auction-bought fleet cars rather than trade-ins. With the price-competition on new Toyotas from other area dealerships, we'd probably go broke if not for these used cars.
