Hillcrest VW - anyone buy used car there?

Q.I would like to hear from anyone who has bought a used car at Hillcrest - specifically do they negotiate on sales prices...

A.I just bought a 2000 Passat from there a month ago. I'm satisfied with the treatment I received. The odd thing was that they apparently don't sell on commission, so even with my leaving and coming back, wash, rinse, repeat... and telling them about the other cars I could just as easily buy... They weren't all that willing to haggle. The most they came down was $800 in price. Granted, their prices for these particular types of cars were the lowest I could find in Canada, so I didn't have much leverage to use. Because Passats can be a bit problem-prone, I had it checked out at Halifax AutoSport, since the owner well-knows European cars. Harrington's or Settle's could do the job as well. It seemed fine, so I went ahead and bought it, even though this particular car didn't come with the VW CPO warranty. I can do most of the repairs myself. Further to HillCrest's credit, they went so far as to fix or patch a few cosmetic and convenience problems that I didn't notice until a week after I brought the car home.
