How To Sell Your Used Car

Q.I need to sell an almost new 94 Mustang because of personal reasons. But since I think I might not be able to sell it myself, I am thinking about selling to dealers. I wonder if dealer will buy a used car without trade-in? If so, will they give me a price below whole-sale? Anyone has suggestion as which dealer I should go to in Bay Area?

A.Being that your a female i think they might also you gender in their rip-off schemes...i wouldnt trust car dealers at all, why dont you try putting your car for sale in your local auto-trader or paper? If they buy your car, of course they will try to buy it for as low as possible. Even might trick you into doing something you might not want to do. Just be careful. I've never dealt with a new car dealer this way, but friends have, with mixed results. If you go this route, don't even appear mildly desparate when you go in. I've left a couple of cars with a mechanic friend who also has a small used car operation - put them on his lot on consignment. We agreed how much I wanted for the cars, how much I'd pay him (commission, if you will) to sell them, add the 2 numbers, tack on a bit extra for negotiating room = posted price. Cars moved within a couple of weeks at fair market value, which is higher than a dealer will give you and lower than you could (usually) buy it from the dealer.
