I Buy Used Cars

Q.I am requesting some info... I have a 2000 S-10 which I leased. I have the opportunity to turn it in now and not pay any penalties. I wanted to buy a used silverado but I can't if i turn in my lease early. Should I wait until the lease is up (March) and buy a used silverado or should take advantage of the 0% financing and turn in my truck now and buy a new silverado......

A.Personally, I would never lease a vehicle or buy a new one. IMO, a lease is cost effective only if you use the vehicle exclusively for business and expense it. When you buy a new vehicle and drive it off the lot, it looses a significant amount of it's value. That view can be correct if you're looking at it from an investment standpoint. However, if you really want to be strict about such a view, then you'd never buy a car period, and instead move to a place that has good public transportation. All cars lose value, save the ones that were rare, rarely used and well-preserved. As such, to consider your car an investment is to be a bad investor. You will almost always lose money on a car. Another person (like me) might look at it from the standpoint of use, and of reliability. If I drive a car fresh off the lot, I know what kind of use it got throughout its life, and how well the car has been treated and maintained. I can be reasonably certain that a new car is less likely to waste my time (and money) in breakdowns by the side of the road, and if it does so even though I took good care of it, the manufacturer will make it good for a certain period of time. Usually you get none of those assurances when buying a car used. But then, both approaches have their merits... if you buy used for example, you're likely not to pay so many car payments, and your insurance will be less... so you can save your cash for the major repairs. So the bottom line is, it depends on what you'd rather have: a new car that only you have owned, are guaranteed a certain level of reliability, and that you and only you can drive into the ground, or a cheaper used car that have already been driven into the ground once or twice by someone else.
