Need some opinons on buying these cars

Q.I don’t know much about vehicles so I was hoping if any of you experts could tell me if the following two cars would be good buy or a mistake. 1. 1994 Mercury Cougar XR7 This vehicle needs a master cylinder and a fuel injector although it does have a new radiator, water pump, oxygen sensors, catalytic converters. 2. 1996 Mazda MX6 This vehicle needs a water pump and a belt.

A.You don’t mention the price. If one were $1 and the other was $10,000 there would be no question. I favor the Mazda. The list of things fixed on the Cougar is a clue to the length of the list you would soon be fixing. This is merely anecdotal, but I went to a garage sale and saw a huge box of used auto parts. The box had every sensor imaginable on a vehicle, plus multi-function switches and so on. Many of the items were half disassembled. Then I looked over and saw the Cougar parked there, imobile. All those parts had come from that Cougar and it still had problems. All used vehicles are a crapshoot, but that’s my take on your choice.
