Help Identifying Old Ohio Highway Patrol Car

Q.A friend has a picture of an old Ohio Highway Patrol Car and would like to know the year/make/model. Can any experts out there help?

A.I believe you will find that the picture is a advertising picture, used by Ford to promote the first Mercury, being introduced in 1939. I doubt the Ohio SP ever used convertibles as police cars. The only "do" I can think of is to make sure the lower control arms are in good shape. Mine snapped on the right side once while driving, and they are a weak link for pre-1962 cars. They changed from the prehistoric double arm to a single arm in 1962. Also check the torque tube struts (these go from the middle of the tube to the ends of the axle, and can be rusted or loose or bent) and the rear suspension anti-waggle pipe (gawd I don't know what it's called, but it sits sort of above and behind the axle and keeps the car's butt from swinging all over the place). These break too; I was in a friend's 65 Classic when it let go.
