Is there a Texas Used Car "Lemon" Law?

Q.Is there a Texas Used Car "Lemon" Law? The Texas Lemon Law covers only new vehicles. Is there something else that covers the used vehicles sold by people in the business of selling used vehicles?

A.Don't quote me on this, but I think there is some relief in Texas for used cars that turn out to be lemons. I do know that there is, or at least was, a business in Austin that thoroughly checks out used cars for a nominal fee. Lemon Busters. I used them six years ago to buy a used custom van. It cost me $60 to get the car inspected, and it took them about two hours. That little inspection netted me a new front and rear main seal on the motor, and a few bucks off the negotiated price. Look 'em up in the phone book and give 'em a call. If anybody knows the lemon law situation, as it regards used vehicles. Part of it is that sticker you have to see on every used car, stating if it has a warrenty or not, and what it is. There are some other provisions, but as usual, the lobbyists got to the legislators about 12 years ago and watered it down to practically nothing. About the same time Bush was gutting the CAFE standards and safety standards for cars and trucks that have killed 10's of thousands of people since then so Chrysler and Ford can save $35 a car and make cheaper bumpers, and people in pickup trucks have no bumpers or head restraints. Its lucky they even have seatbelts!
