Q.about the used auto parts...i went online and asked the internet parts locator service for a Subaru air-conditiong compressor...i got 9 answers within an hour...California, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Georgia, Atlanta..prices ranged from $100 to $140, shipping included...and guaranteed 90 days...and hey, all real nice folks...i felt like i was talking to my relatives... Are there various book sellers (retail) connected with Amazon in a type of network? I remember in the early 1970's when I drove a tow truck, some of the larger "purveyors of fine used automobiles" had some sort of network. When a customer requested a certain part and the local yard didn't have it they would look in a database, find the part, then call and check on availability and price. The other yard could ship it to the requesting yard or, if it was close by, trhe customer could drive over and pick it up.

A.There are thousands and thousands of items available in our hobby today, especially when you consider all the detail parts, paints, etc. Really study the Walthers catalogue, keeping in mind that it doesn't list everything available today. How to you keep a database like that up to date? Do you only list the items you currently have in stock? That could actually add to the burden, as your stock changes daily. While companies like Athearn usually run a line on a continuous basis, other companies like Atlas have gotten into the habit of 'limited runs', which means that once you enter the items into the database, you now have to be sure to delete items no longer available! This whole thing becomes a very labor intensive job.
