Used Auto Parts BostonQ.Thousands of vendors from all over the country go to sell and buy stuff that weekend. It is mainly for automobiles. They sell hard to find used auto parts. Plus they have classic cars for sale. They get so much traffic that goes to this event that it clogs some of the local roads. So anyway, I stumbled onto this guy selling some home stereo equipment. He had a decent pair a Boston Acoustic SUBWOOFERS & a pair of JBL bookshelf . I thought I looked at them when I saw them at the market. I guess not well enough. I got parts from a car stereo shop around here and fucked around and I got the speakers to work. To make matters worse, I mounted the speakers to a 4x4x8 piece of wood that is on my ceiling and is used to stop the ceiling from falling down. I gotta move. Have you checked them today? A.I've had a pair of JBL towers for almost ten years now. Not the absolute top-of-the-line models or anything, but I think the tweeters are titanium coated. Unfortunately with the little ones around the house, I haven't been able to crank 'em up to a respectable volume for a few years, but they do sound great. I buddy of mine used to have a pair of the L7 towers...man! What a sound! I think they had solid titanium tweeters in those things, and with a few hundred watts pumping through each channel, it was magic. The foam surrounds of recent years have a nasty habit of doing that in high humidity, smoky rooms, after being stored in an unheated place, if you look at them wrong... I have a semi-pro auto mechanic friend who bought a great pair of BA's that had foam surround and they literally dissolved and ran down the face of the cabinet over about six months from the gasoline and other fumes that generally occur in garages. They make for a nice, snappy woofer but their long term reliability isn't great. They might have been intact when you bought them, in fact they sounded great when you first hooked them up, no? That foam was almost falling apart when you bought them, all it took was a little push and away it went.
