Used Auto Parts In Houston

Q.In the continuing story of my 400 sbc rebuild, I have a bad vibration at 2000 rpm. I have a new harmonic balancer to replace the old one. The old one actually looks perfectly fine, TDC mark lines up with the crankshaft key same as the new one. Rubber is still soft and looks in very good shape. So if the new damper doesn't cure the problem, then I'll disconnect the torque convertor and check the flex plate. When I installed the flex plate, there was a key on the crank and I remember taking extra care on mating the two together. But just in case, does anyone know where the flexplate counter weights are in relation to TDC?

A.I thought I did, when I went to Johnny Franks Used Auto parts in Houston. I am redoing a 3.8 litre engine which I will eventually put into my Reatta (the engine of which is fine but aging). I needed this so that the machine shop can balance the rotating assembly. (Note, this engine is internally balanced for harmonics by a balance shaft. No external balancer). I was told that I wanted a flywheel, because GM does not use flexplates. The attendant told me that only Chrysler used flexplates. Rebuffed, I went to another junkyard and bought the round dislike gizmo that I needed.
