Used Auto Parts Indiana

Q.Can anyone help with how reputable yards keep track of used engines they sell do they go by numbers off the block or do they put a stamp mark on them? On Thursday Dec. 19 I went to a scrap yard to look at a motor . I even took My mechanic along (he is off work as a seasonal truck driver before that he was a certified mechanic for fifteen years)The dealer stated that he would stand behind this engine as a good runner .I told him I would take it. I had the wifes car and no way of taking it with me at that time. So the following day I borrowed my fathers truck went up and picked it up and once again the man told us he would stand behind it he put a heat tag on the head and supposedly stamped the block which we didnt notice.well low and behold I got home started looking at the engine found the cam was shot the lifters were going two cylinders were rust pitted three cylinders were deeply scored another words the engine is junk .I went back up on monday the guy said he would be more than happy to return my money if the engine was his. well he came out behind the counter with a large screwdriver and started scraping on the block then he said this wasnt his engine.court proceedings are in process

A.am a used car dealer in Northern IN. We buy parts from salvage yards, junk yards, used auto parts suppliers, etc................We buy from "THEM" because they are business people providing a service. I do not know what type of business you are in, but does not sound like you know what the hell you are doing. Are you buying junk to scrap out or are you in the used parts business? If you do "sell" to people wanting to buy parts, what do you do. I know several USED PARTS people, they are fine honest folks. They buy wrecked and/or vehicles to part out. They mostly do not really know if the part is good or not. That's why they have a return policy (exchange only most of the time). I think you are bad mouthing a whole group of business'.
