Used Auto Parts Indianapolis

Q.Quick question. My 81 Wag has a cracked windshield. Found a used windshield in good shape at a local used auto parts store. Before buying it, I came home and consulted Haynes and Chilton's. Both said that for these years, due to code, to have an "Expert" install the glass. Was curious if this truly was the case. Also, anyone ever taken used glass into a shop and asked them to install it? I'm almost afraid to ask for the price on new glass.

A.After I rolled mine the first time, I had to have the WS frame replaced and new Glass. I dropped off a new WS frame and gasket to a shop and they put the glass in (brand new) for $65.00. Couldn't believe it, but I only found them after calling around just about every glass shop in the phone book. Believe it or not, I got prices of over $325 down to the $65 I paid. Pays to shop around! I found a local shop here in Indianapolis that put a used windshield in my fiberglass frame for my CJ5 for $35. Although, to be honest, he said that was the last time he'd ever make the mistake of prequoting a Jeep windshield again.
