Used Auto Parts Ny

Q.I recently saw one of Athearn's new Conrail 86' Hi Cubes, and was really impressed by the shear size of the model. I was wondering if anyone can tell me something about the history of these huge boxcars? When were they introduced? Are they a fairly modern car, and are they still in use? Does Conrail still use them, and what kind of cargo are they used for. I assume auto parts or something bulky like that

A.I'll answer part of your question. Hi Cube boxcars are indeed used for auto parts. Used to see tons of them at the GM plant in Tarrytown, NY. They were introduced sometime in the mid '60s. I believe they are still used today.
