Used Auto Parts St Louis

Q.I am located in central Missouri, and I am considering purchasing a car located in northern VA. Does anybody have any ideas of how to transport a car over long distances like this? What is the generally accepted method of transferring the title, payment, etc? The options I have considered for transporting the car so far are 1) rent a roll-back (anyone know what an average rate for these are?) 2) just rent a big trailer and haul it with a truck 3) some form of rail transport. Has anyone here had experience with sending a car via rail? What steps do you take? What are the problems with this method? How much of a hassle is it? How much does this cost? The car is a large late '60's car, and is not in running condition.

A.For shipping about 1,000 miles, hiring a professional company is going to run you at least $1000. You have a choice between the big moving companies (Bekins, Atlas, etc.--but only if it's a smaller car) or a professional classic/antique auto trans- porter (NOT the ones who have rigs like the ones used to deliver new cars to your local auto dealer--they offer NO protection for longer distance hauling). The plus side to these methods is that the car will be inside an enclosed trailer and will be well cared for; the downside is that they're not cheap by any means. Haven't used one yet, but I got a quote for moving my Acura Integra from Los Angeles to Portland 6 years ago. I'm not certain, but I think Ryder might require the rental of a truck to rent their auto carrier. If you can get the auto carrier without the truck, the rental will cost about $250 one-way (depending on the discounts you can get). If you've got to do the truck too, it will cost closer to $1500. I used this method about 1 year ago to move my '57 GMC from Los Angeles to Vancouver, WA (about 1000 miles). The auto carrier that I rented was a really durable piece of equipment, but if you're concerned about the elements getting to the car, it's not the way to go. I've rented U-Haul in the past, but after some BAAAAAAD experiences with their equipment, I won't go back to them. Ryder is a bit more expensive, but I've been impressed with the service and with their willingness to compensate you if you've had a bad experience with their equipment. You'll probably get other ideas as well, but the two I discussed above are the ones that I've done research on in the past.
