Used Auto Parts Wisconsin

Q.I ran 99 Silverado out of gas. Changed fuel filter,used starting fluid. Won't start. Now what? 99 Silverado 1500 with 5.3 vortec. Tries to start. Turns over but won't start. Auto parts guy told me to use starting fluid. No luck. Put 12 gallons of gas in tank. Gage won't even register as having gas. Can anyone in the group help me please?

A.I think that you can try the Used auto parts In wisconsin for the following reasons: are you getting fuel to the intake? an easy way to check is to turn the key on for about five seconds then shut it off. now under the hood if it's multiport fuel injection look on the fuel rail and you'll see what look like a tire fill valve. push on the pin like you would to let the air out of a tire. when you do this you should have fuel spray out of it. if there is no fuel coming out try the whole process a couple more times. if it doesn't work then you have a bad fuel sending unit or fuel pump. this has happened to my dad he too has a 99 silverado 5.3 kind of ironic but anyhow yes your fuel pupmp is inside the tank and relies on fuel to keep it cool and lubricated and yours now is probably burnt up from running it out of fuel sorry....and also the reason you gauge is not registering is bc that senson is also along with the fuel pump so yeas i am 99% sure that itis your fuel pump.
