Used Car Ads

Q.Are used car ads posted through cragslist.com reliable? I plan to purchase a used car. Craigslist provided that list. I was interested in a couple of them so I sent out an email to them. Two responded, however, one car is in Canada and the other one is in UK. One uses the www.e-bbb.org as her intermediary escrow and the other one uses the Square Trade. I searched "Square Trade" and found out there were scams linked to it. Now I'm beginning to think these used car sales through craigslist.com are just plain hoax to extract money from unsuspected citizens. Can anyone in the group help me please?

A.I can just advise you on my personal experiece. I bought an 03 Passat last summer, fully loaded, for about $16k, advertized on CL. it was a great experience and I love the car. Right after that I sold my 93 Volvo on CL and that was a sucess, too. Craiglist is only as good as the people using it. I used the want ads in the past, but CL is better because you can view pictures, deal with people using email instead of the phone, and it's free. There are scams everywhere - caveat emptor. and i would take greater pause if it were a long distance deal. but if it is local, you can go inpsect, drive, and take the car to a mechanic, then you will know with what you are dealing with. of course, you will have to be willing to get to know the seller at bit to go throught with the deal. I would say I have had a much better experience dealing with individuals than car salesmen in general. There is much less of an adjenda. To further this, I have sold quite a few items: bikes, bike stuff, air conditioners, ice skates, etc, on craigslist, and it has been a pleasurable, fun experience meeting these poeple and raising a little bit of money. and easier and more straightforward than ebay.
