Used Car Ann Arbor

Q.I think Volvo dealers fail to realize (among other things) the fact that providing a loaner vehicle may help sell that model of car. Dealers who currently provide loaner vehicle do so for owners of new cars (under warranty), which doesn't help sell anything. If they'd loan you a vehicle maybe even once for service of a 240 or 740 model, then that owner essentially gets a 'non-salesman-guided' test drive. I also realize it's impractical for a dealer to loan a car for every service job done. I'm sure you've been to a dealer that has at least six bays, full all the time, at an average job time of 2-3 hours in an 8-hour day, that means 18-24 loaners per day. Not practical. On an unrelated note, does anyone think that IPD reads this newsgroup, then puts things on sale that people are looking for (and publishes it in the next flyer)?

A.I then talk to the service manager at Dwyer only to be told that they can't possibly schedule the repair till next week - sorry. I then called another dealer, Ann Arbor Volvo, and asked if they could fix it. They said no problem - but sorry no loaner. I picked up the part from Dwyer and took it to Ann Arbor. I arrived at 7 am with the part and started waiting. At 10 am they tell me that the problem wasn't the damper motor but that the damper housing is broken. Of course the parts are not on hand. At this point I was furious. I called Volvo again only to be told sorry. I now had no choice but to rent a car! So I leave my car in Ann Arbor and head back to Chicago in a rental car at my own expense. The following week I get a call that my car was ready. Unfortunately I couldn't get back to Detroit to pick it up. So I asked Ann Arbor Volvo to drop the car off at a local body shop so I could get some touch up painting done. Three days later the car finally shows up at the body shop. Two weeks later I pick up the car on a Saturday. The first thing I noticed is that the radio says OFF. I pulled out the owners manual and found the reset procedure - two hours later I entered the security code (which was in the glove box the whole time - I don't know why the mechanic who fixed the heater didn't enter it correctly). All that I heard out of the radio was a very high pitched noise. I quickly realized that somehow when they were putting the dash back together they shorted out the radio. I called Ann Arbor Volvo only to be told that their service department is closed on Saturday. So I delayed my return to Chicago until Monday afternoon (taking a vacation day) and showed up first thing Monday morning at Ann Arbor Volvo. After a two hour wait I was told that the external amplifier was blown (850Rs have an external 200 watt amp).
